Purpose: Creates a layer with content that can overlap other layers. An inline version of the <LAYER> tag.
Start Tag/End Tag: Required/Required
Supported: [NS4]
Attributes:
* ABOVE--Gives the name of the layer that will occur directly above the current layer in the layer z-order (stacking order). Note that only one of these attributes: Z-INDEX, ABOVE, or BELOW can be used for a given layer. Set this attribute to an existing layer ID value. [NS4]
* BACKGROUND--Indicates a background image to be tiled on the layer (the default for layers is that they are transparent). Set to the image's URL. [NS4]
* BELOW--Gives the name of the layer that will occur directly below the current layer in the layer z-order (stacking order). Note that only one of these attributes: Z-INDEX, ABOVE, or BELOW can be used for a given layer. Set this attribute to an existing layer ID value. [NS4]
* BGCOLOR--Gives the background color of the layer (the default for layers is that they are transparent). Set to an RGB color value or a predefined color. [NS4]
* CLASS--Class of the element (used for rendering). [NS4]
* CLIP--Specifies the viewable area of the layer. Using this attribute, you can set the clipping area to values less than the width and height of the content of the layer. Set this attribute to a comma-separated list of integers specifying the pixel coordinates of the clipping rectangle (CLIP="100, 100, 400, 400" or CLIP="400, 400", where the second form relies on the fact that the left and top settings default to 0). Note that the origin is at the top, left corner and pixel values grow moving down and to the right. [NS4]
* HEIGHT--Gives the height of the content of the layer and sets up a reference dimension for child layers. Set to positive pixel widths or a percentage of the container. [NS4]
* ID--Unique alphanumeric identifier for the tag, which you can use to refer to it. [NS4]
* LEFT--Gives the left location of the current layer relative to a parent layer if there is one, or the browser window otherwise. Set to an integer specifying the screen position or a scripting expression. [NS4]
* PAGEX--Sets the absolute horizontal position of the left boundary of the current layer in relation to the document window. Set to a value giving the screen position in pixels or an HTML scripting expression. [NS4]
* PAGEY--Sets the absolute vertical position of the top boundary of the current layer in relation to the document window. Set to a value giving the screen position in pixels or an HTML scripting expression. [NS4]
* SRC--The URL of an HTML document to be inserted in the layer (like using IFRAME in Internet Explorer). Set to a URL. [NS4]
* STYLE--Inline style indicating how to render the element. [NS4]
* TOP--Gives the top location of the current layer relative to a parent layer if there is one, or the browser window otherwise. Set to an integer specifying the screen position or a scripting expression. [NS4]
* VISIBILITY--Sets whether a layer is visible or not, by default, a layer has the same visibility as its parent layer. Set to: SHOW (shows the layer), HIDE (hides the layer), or INHERIT (giving the layer the same visibility as its parent). For top-level layers without a parent layer, INHERIT means the same as SHOW. [NS4]
* WIDTH--Sets the width of the layer's content, controlling the layer's right margin for wrapping purposes. Set to positive pixel values. [NS4]
* Z-INDEX--Lets you specify the stacking order of a layer. Layers that have higher Z-INDEX values go above those with lower Z-INDEX values. Z-INDEX values that are positive stack layers above their parents, while negative ones stack them below their parents. Note that only one of these attributes: Z-INDEX, ABOVE, or BELOW can be used for a given layer. Set this attribute to an existing layer ID value. Set this attribute to integer values. [NS4]
Purpose: Inserts an image into a Web page.
Start Tag/End Tag: Required/Omitted.
Supported: [2, 3, 3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
Attributes:
* ALIGN--Sets the alignment of text, which follows the IMG reference relative to the image on the screen. You use LEFT and RIGHT to indicate horizontal alignment of the image in the browser window, and the text that follows will wrap around the image. You use the other options to indicate vertical alignment of text relative to the image when the text is on the same line. Possible settings are: LEFT, RIGHT, TOP, TEXTTOP, MIDDLE (you can also call this setting CENTER in Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator), ABSMIDDLE, BASELINE, BOTTOM, and ABSBOTTOM. [2, 3, 3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* ALT--According to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), this attribute is required. You use this attribute to specify text to be displayed in place of an image for browsers that cannot handle graphics or have graphics disabled. Set this attribute to a string of valid alphanumeric characters. [2, 3, 3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* BORDER--Sets whether or not the image has a border, and if so, how thick the border is. If the image is not also a hyperlink, the border color is usually the color of the surrounding text. If the image is a hyperlink, the border color will be the default hyperlink color. Set to 0 for no border, or a positive integer pixel value. [3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* CLASS--Class of the element (used for rendering). [3, 4, IE4, IE5]
* DIR--Gives the direction of directionally neutral text (text that doesn't have inherent direction in which you should read it). Possible values: LTR: left-to-right text or table, and RTL: right-to-left text or table. [IE5]
* DYNSRC--Specifies the URL of an inline video. Set this attribute to a URL. [IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5]
* HEIGHT--Indicates the height of the image. Can be omitted, but specifying a value here for the HEIGHT and for the WIDTH attribute can speed up the downloading of the image. Because the browser can draw a blank space for the image while it's being downloaded, the page elements will not move around. Set to pixel measurements. [3, 3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* HSPACE--Sets the horizontal spacing (both left and right sides) around the image. Set to pixel measurements. [3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* ID --A unique alphanumeric identifier for the tag, which you can use to refer to it. [3, 4, IE4, IE5]
* ISMAP--Indicates that this image is to be used as an image map together with a map file. This attribute is a stand-alone attribute. The map file holds shape names and matching coordinate values that list corresponding URLs to navigate to. [2, 3, 3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* LANG--Base language used for the tag. [3, 4, IE4, IE5]
* LANGUAGE--Scripting language used for the tag. [IE4, IE5]
* LONGDESC--Set to a longer description of the image. This attribute allows descriptive narrative with markup to be used for image descriptions. Set to a URL. [4]
* LOOP--Sets the number of times a video will play. You use this attribute together with the DYNSRC attribute. Set it to a positive integer, or -1 for a value of INFINITE (which makes the video loop forever). [IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5]
* LOWSRC--Gives the URL of a low-resolution image, which should be downloaded before the higher resolution image given by the SRC attribute. The idea is to present some kind of the image to the user while the higher resolution image is downloading. The low-resolution image is displayed until the high-resolution image is fully downloaded. Set this attribute to a URL. [IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* NAME--Gives a unique name to the image so you can reference it with scripting code. Set to valid alphanumeric characters. [IE4, IE5, NS3, NS4]
* SRC--This attribute is required. Specifies the URL of the actual image to display. Set to a URL. [2, 3, 3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* START--Sets when a video will start playing. You use this attribute together with the DYNSRC attribute. Possible values are: FILEOPEN (the video will start as soon as it is downloaded) and MOUSEOVER (the video starts playing when the mouse moves over the video). [IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5]
* STYLE--Inline style indicating how to render the element. [4, IE4, IE5]
* TITLE --Holds additional information (which might be displayed in tool tips) for the element. [3, 4, IE4, IE5]
* USEMAP--Gives the URL--usually inside the current document--of a client-side image map, and indicates that the image is to be used as an image map. Note that using USEMAP overrides any <A> element surrounding the <IMG> element. Set to a URL, or an anchor name internal to the file. [3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* VRML--Gives the URL of an inline Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) world, letting the browser launch a VRML viewer (if there is one on the computer). Set to a URL. [IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5]
* VSPACE --Sets the vertical spacing (both top and bottom sides) around the image. Set to pixel measurements. [3.2, 4, IE1, IE2, IE3, IE4, IE5, NS1, NS2, NS3, NS4]
* WIDTH--Indicates the width of the image. Can be omitted, but specifying a value for WIDTH here and for the image's HEIGHT can speed up the downloading of the image. Because the browser can draw a blank space for the image while it's being downloaded, the page elements will not move around. Set to pixel measurements.
